Phrases :

These are such group of words which do not have any literal meaning in fact they have sense and this sense clear when they are used in a sentence.

Examples:

used to, accustomed to, instead of, in spite of, besides of, on account of

  • I used to go for morning walk.

  • He is accustomed to take tea every hour.

  • Instead of learning this topic, if you study some basic topic, it will be better for you.

  • In spite of putting a lot of efforts, he could not get the job.

  • Besides of speaking in English, I also use Hindi very well.

  • On account of his leaves, he could deliver his best those days.

  

Use of Used to + V1

  • To show habits of past

  • MERA CHACHA JI MUJHE BHUT PRESENTS DILWATE THE.

  • My uncle used to get me given many presents.

  • MAI APNE FRIENDS KE SATH SHAAM KO CHUPAN CHUPAI KHELTA THA.

  • I used to play hide and seek with my friends. 

  • MERI SISTER SUBAH 6 BJE UTHTI HAI AUR VO DAILY 2 GHANTE TO PADHTI HI PADHTI HAI.

  • My sister gets up at 6 and she is used to study at least for 2 hours.

  • ANKUR MERI BAAT MANTA HAI AUR MERE INSTRUCTIONS KO APNE SCHEDULE ME FOLLOW KARTA HI KRTA HAI.

  • Ankur follows me and he is used to follow my instructions in his schedule.

 

Use of "Accustomed to"

  • It is used to show strong habits.

  • The habits which are emphasized.

  • Sub+ is, am, are + accustomed to+ V1+ object + Complement

  • MERA CHOTA BHAI SHAM KO CRICKET KHELTE HAI AUR VO APNE DOSTON KO GHAR PE INVITE KARTA HI KRTA HAI. 

  • My younger brother plays cricket in evening and he is accustomed to invite his friends at home.

  • VE LOG SABHI CUSTOMERS SE JHOOT BOLTE HAI AUR PRODUCTS KE HIGH PRICE LETE HI LETE HAI.

  • They lie with all customers and they are accustomed to take high prices of products.

  • MAI GENUINE PROBLEMS KO SAMJHTA HU AUR HAR HALAT ME UNKA SOLUTION TO DETA HI DETA HU.

  • I understand the genuine problem and I am accustomed to give its solution in any condition.

  • ANITA GHAR KA SARA KAAM KARTI HAI LEKIN HAFTE ME 2 BAAR PARLOUR JATI HI JATI HAI.

  • Anita does all domestic work but she is accustomed to / used to go to parlor at least two times in a week.

  • MERE FRIENDS MUJHSE KAI GHANT BAAT KRTE HAI AUR APNE PERSONAL MATTERS MERE SE DISCUSS KRTE HI KRTE HAI.

  • My friends talk to me for hours and they are accustomed to discuss their personal matters with me.

 

Use of "Instead of"- In place of    KE BAJAY

  • Syntax: Instead of + ing form of verb

  • Instead + Noun

  • IS BOOK KI BAJAY, TUM YE BOOK KHARID LO.

  • Buy this book, instead that book.

  • IS BOOK KO BAAR BAAR PADHNE KE BAJAYE TUM IS APNI LIFE ME FOLLOW KARO.

  • Instead of reading this book again and again, you better follow it in your life.

  • FALTU BAITHNE KI BAJAYE TUM APNE KAAM PAR DHYAN DO.

  • Instead of sitting uselessly, you better concentrate at your work.

 

Use of "In spite of" – then also    KE BAAVJOOD

  • Syntax: despite + noun

  • In spite of + ing form of verb

  • IN TOPICS KO STUDY KRNE KE BAAVJOOD, USE INHE PADHNE ME PROBLEM HOTI HAI.

  • In spite of studying these topics, he faces problems in learning them.

  • IN SAMASYAON KE BAAVJOOD VAH HIMMAT NHI HARA.

  • Despite these problems, he did not give up.

  • Beside and Besides

  • Beside means by the side of     BAGAL ME

  • Besides means in addition to   KE ATRICT

  • MAI APNE BEST FRIEND KE BAGAL ME BAITHTA HUN.

  • I sit beside my best friend.

  • YAHAN PADHNE KE ATIRICT, MAI GHAR PE BHI 2 GHANTE PADHTA HUN.

  • Besides of studying here, I study at home for 2 hours.

  • IN MEDICINES KE ALAWA MERE PAS AUR BHI RESOURCES HAI.

  • Besides these medicines, I have other resources as well.

  • Phrases- verb + preposition
