Daily dose of vocabulary- The Hindu Editorial Vocabulary

1. Delude (V)- To cheat, to bamboozle      DHOKHA DENA

2. Deluge (V,N)-BAADH, BAADH AANA

This area has been deluged into water.  

Sometimes we are deluded by nature when some areas are deluged.

 

3. Stonewall (V)- obstruct               ROOKAWAT KRNA

Although many distractions try to stonewall you when you are close to success.

 

4. Skittish (ADJ)- timid, fearful, nervous, fainthearted

It is so kiddish when we hear about a skittish person.  

She is a skittish girl who doesn’t go anywhere alone, especially at night.

 

5. Thwart (V)- to oppose VIRDODH KRNA

In a war people tend to oppose not propose.

 

6. Controvert (v)- to deny something, to disobey something  KHANDAN

Controvertist – Opposers  

 

7. Egotist- arrogant          AHAMVAADI

Egoist- arrogant

 

8. Adieu- Farewell            VIDAAI

9. Exacerbate (V)- to spoil

10. Annihilate (v)- to ruin

11. Folly (N)- foolishness

12. Obsolete (ADJ)- Outdated

13. Swot (v)- mug up         RATNAA

14. Astray (N)- Misguided - GUMRAAH

A teacher may bring astray on the right track with his counseling skills.

 

15. Repine (V)- To complain

 

16. Ambush (V,N)- to invade, to attack

Key Word: BUSH

Memory Link: some people are hidden in the bush and they ambush on you suddenly.

 

17. Beat around the bush

To talk in round manner

One should talk to the point instead of beating around the bush.

 

18. Anguish (N)- Control                   ANKUSH

When there is a lot of anguish over children, they become irritated.

 

19. Convoy (N)- Group of people towards a destination

 

20. Irrefutable (ADJ)- Trenchant, which can be avoided or refused, certain, without any doubt

My commitments are irrefutable. Once I make, I do 100% efforts to achieve results.

23. Vicarious (ADJ)- Not experienced practically

VIKAAR

Shooting someone is a vicarious experience for me as I haven’t got the opportunity.

To increase   AAG ME MINT DALNA

A lot of argument may augment the discussion and it may be converted into an altercation.

 

25. At into the forefront of- at leading position

In order to gain leadership skills one should be at into the forefront of various activities.

 

26. Stonewall (v)– to obstruct RUKAVAT DALNA

The suspect continued to stonewall the investigation and refused to answer any questions.
